If you are using the VISION Learning Station to publish content online, there will be a few extra steps that you need to take. These are outlined in this segment.
Set up Courses in the VISION Developer
Publish Articulate or Captivate for the VLS
Note in the "Web Based Learning Content Modules" window on the Content page, there are two checkboxes with similar names: "Deliverable" and "Deliver." |
|
Deliverable |
Deliver |
It is in the program training unit workscreen, on the Design page, where you select which content objects from each objective will be presented (delivered) in the Learning Station for that lesson. However, only the content objects marked as "Deliverable" on the objective's workscreen will even show up there, on the training unit's workscreen. So that is the purpose of the "Deliverable" checkbox: to make a content object eligible for selection in the lesson. |
If objectives were presented in the Learning Station only in the context of lessons, then "Deliverable" would be the only checkbox necessary on the objective's Learning Content window. However, an objective is sometimes presented in the Learning Station independently of any lesson. In those contexts, where there is no lesson present to mediate whether a content object is presented, the "Deliver" checkbox controls whether the content object will be presented with its objective. |
Why not mark every content section as Deliverable? One reason is that a content section may be in a state of development or revision, and not yet ready for presentation. Leaving "Deliverable" unchecked safeguards that section from delivery before it is ready. If you wish to change the published content, you can edit it and click the “Convert to HTML” option again. Otherwise, the Learning Station will only display the most recently published content. You can delete or rename HTML content by right-clicking it and choosing “Delete” from the menu. You can preview some HTML content by clicking “Preview” on the right-click menu. |
The learning station can only deliver a few types of content, so having a Word or PowerPoint document in VISION is not enough. When you have completed your content in Word or PowerPoint, you must convert it to HTML or MP4 Video before you can deliver it. From the Word Actions or PowerPoint Actions drop-down menus, select "Convert... to HTML" or "Convert to MP4 Video". |
In order to deliver content to the VISION Learning Station, the objective that contains the content must have a status of "Content Approved". To change an objective's status, click on the General page, and click the Status drop-down menu. Select the bold "Content Approved" status from the drop-down menu and click the OK button to save your changes. |
In order to deliver content to the VISION Learning Station, the training unit that contains the objectives must have a status of "Completed-Active". To change an objective's status, click on the General page, and click the Development Status drop-down menu. Select the bold "Completed-Active" status from the drop-down menu and click the OK button to save your changes. You must also set the Course organizer's (the parent of the training unit) Status to "Completed-Active" as well. |
You can add an introduction to your training unit on the Introduction menu item of the training unit's properties page. This will be presented in the VISION Learning Station if you chose to publish it. To enter an introduction, click on the Word or PowerPoint Actions menu and then New Document or New Presentation. Enter the introduction and then save it. To deliver the introduction in the VISION Learning Station, select one of the options under "Convert to HTML options..." heading. You can choose to convert Word to HTML or PowerPoint to HTML (if you have Office 2010) or to MP4 Video (if your version of Office is newer than 2010). Once you've made your selection click the Convert button. You can view or unpublish the HTML content with the other buttons on that page. |
There are many Learning Station options on the program's Design page. One of these is the Transition and another is the Hold. on the Design menu item, you will see listed the objectives sequenced into this training unit. Click the Content button and you will see the content for each objective listed as well. •You can select or de-select content for delivery by checking or unchecking the Deliver check box. •You can place a Hold on content by clicking the Hold checkbox next to it. A "Hold" prevents learners from proceeding with the training unit's content until after the instructor releases it in the VISION Learning Station. Enter the message that learners will see when they reach the content and can proceed no further in the lesson. oFor example, if you need documentation from learners before releasing a hold, you can instruct them to upload the documents in the VISION Learning Station and then release each hold as their documents come in. The Procedures section of the Learner Guide help has instructions to upload documents. •Transitions are text screens that appear between objective content. Enter a transition to move the learners from one topic to the next. These statements will not be saved with the objective, but with the program so a transition you enter here will not effect the objective elsewhere. |
You can add VLS Assessment Profiles to the training unit in the Tests menu item. Assessment profiles are necessary for exams in the VISION Learning Station, but not used in VISION Developer. If you do not have an appropriate assessment profile, or are not ready to add one to the training unit yet, you will be able to create and add them in the VISION Learning Station. To add an assessment profile, click on the Assessment Profile button and select an assessment profile from the list. |
See these instructions to assign prerequisites to the training unit: Assigning Prerequisites to Training units. |
You must click the VLS Options menu on the training unit (available at the bottom of any page) and select, "Publish to VLS". You can do this after you have set the training unit's status to "Completed-Active". |
