This tab is used for claiming ownership of the test and defining the access rights for users other than the owner. The purpose is to control the viewing and changing of your test by others. The owner of a test can, for example:
•Prevent others from viewing or changing the test
•Allow others to view, but not change, the test
•Prevent others from changing the test, but allow them to view the test by supplying a password.
Note: The restrictions defined on this tab operate in addition to the general test security measures defined in a user's security profile. This means, for example, that if a user has not been granted write permission in the test area of a VISION project, then that user won't be able to change this test (or any test in the project), no matter what access has been defined on this, the Security tab.
It is important to understand the limitations of securing a test. Securing a test does not secure the test units. The test units—the programs, objectives, and questions that comprise the test—are not exclusively owned by the test. (Indeed, the same units might be used on other tests.) Therefore, these units, even though they may appear on a secured test, can be edited outside the scope of the test.
So, for example, if a question is changed, and that question happens to appear on a secured test, then the secured test has been changed in effect. Thus, even a secured test is subject to change—indirectly.
So if the questions on a secured test can still be changed outside the test, even though the test is "secured", then what's the point? Well, securing the test does prevent its properties from being changed: its title, profile, selection of questions, etc. Most important, perhaps, securing a test can prevent others from seeing which questions are on the test.
Note: The security tab is visible but inactive if the test is owned by another. Thus, you cannot alter the security settings on someone else's test.
Click this button to take ownership of the test—or to release ownership if the test is already owned by you. If the test is owned by someone else, then you won't be able to release his or her ownership—even if the owner has granted you permission to modify the test.
As "owner" of a test, you can control others' access to the test.
This box displays the names of the test owners, or is blank if the test is not owned.
This is where the test owner sets the permissions for others, as regards viewing the test.
•View the test properties
•Generate the test documents
•Copy the test
The test owner has three choices:
The test owner can click here to prevent others from viewing the test.
The test owner can click here to grant permission to others to view the test.
The test owner can click here to allow others who know the test password to view the test. Enter or modify the test password in the Assign Test Password box.
Permission to modify a test includes permission to:
•Modify the test
•Delete the test
•View the test
Permission to modify does not include permission to change the ownership or security settings. Only the test owner can do that.
The test owner can click here to prevent others from modifying the test.
The test owner can click here to grant permission to others to modify the test.
The test owner can click here to allow others who know the test password to modify the test. Enter or modify the test password in the Assign Test Password box.
Type a password for this test in this box, and retype the password in the Confirm box. Only the owner can set the password, and only if the access rights for others require a password.
Confirm the password entered in the Assign Test Password box by retyping it here.
