Setting up a course is a process involving two main steps. First, you’ll create the course title and set attributes of the course; then add the training units (usually “lessons” comprising the course) from the corresponding VISION program hierarchy. This segment will show you how to add courses in the Learning Station.
In order to create a course you MUST have a VDM user account with security access for the VDM Project that the course belongs to. If you do not, talk to your administrator and reference this guide: Reconcile VLS & VDM User Accounts.
Follow these steps to create a course in the Learning Station:
1.Click on Administration on the Main Menu.
2.Click on the Courses tab. This is the default tab when entering the Administration area.
3.Click on the Add Course button.
4.You may wish to wait to mark the course as "Approved", as you will not be able to edit it once this is done (though you will be able to make a new version of it and edit that).
5.Enter whether or not the course will be required by all of the learners assigned to it.
6.Specify if the course is Organization Specific. If "yes", select the organization from the pull-down menu.
a.Next choose whether or not the course is Job Specific by clicking the appropriate radio button. If it is, choose the job from the pull-down menu.
7.Specify if the course is External or Predefined. An external course is a course that you will use when calling a training unit using AICC from an LMS. A Predefined course is restricted and based on a Course Organizer node that has been defined in Developer.
8.Enter the remaining options according to the definitions below, in "Course Properties".
9.When you are finished entering information, click the Next button to link training units (lessons) to the course.
10.Select a project from the pull-down box.
a.If there are not any projects listed in the pull-down box, it means that either no projects have been assigned to the Organization, or if it’s a job specific course, the program hierarchy has not been “mapped” to the Job Position.
11.Select a work area from the pull-down box.
12.Click on the Add buttons next to the training units you wish to add. Note that training units that cannot be added to the course will not have an "Add" button next to them.
13.The courses you added appear on the right, under "Selected Course".
14.Review the lessons you have chosen for the course and make any adjustments you need, such as removing them with the Change button, or arranging them with the up or down buttons.
15.When you are satisfied with the selection and order of the training units for the course, click the Add Course button.
If this course includes Performance Assessment training units you will also have training and evaluation settings.
1.Enter Trainer and Evaluator information, as described on the Add Course page.
2.When you are finished click the Add Course button.
3.You are now on the course's properties page. If you wish to make the course Approved, you can do so by clicking the Edit Properties button and moving Course Approved to "Yes".
