The VCT and VOR work together through Outcome Types (VOR) and Content Templates (VCT). These make content easy for you to generate, but they also make it very important for you to understand which types of content correspond with which templates. Furthermore you will select your template when you create the content, but you will not select the Outcome Type until you are ready to generate content, so it is important that you know what you'll be generating when you begin creating content.
The VOR classifies content into two broad groups, similar to how VISION provides the two types of 0bjectives: Cognitive and Performance. Training units designed for cognitive training fall into the Lesson Content group. Training units designed for performance training fall into the Performance Training group.
The VOR supports two different approaches to preparing performance training materials, Task-centered and Scenario-based.
•Task-centered Approach: In the Task-centered approach the TU is assumed to be targeted to address only a few specific, tightly related tasks, similar to most individual or small group on-the-job training and evaluation activities.
•Scenario-based Approach: In the Scenario-based approach, the training unit is assumed to cover a wide range of tasks, with multiple overlapping activities or events occurring during a training period, reflective of dynamic team training in a simulator environment.
Both approaches to generating Performance Training outcomes are significantly more complex than those involved in generating Lesson Content.
The VOR generates seven different types of outcomes. These outcome options were designed to have the flexibility to generate almost all types of material in common use in training. The relationship between the Lesson and Performance Training groups, the approach used to generate Performance Training materials, and the outcomes supported by the VOR are as follows:

The VISION Content Toolbar provides support for inserting site-specific content layout templates beyond those available with the Objective Classification. These Content Templates serve as the starting point for creating content in a learning object. To use a VCT content template, create or open the content object in VISION Developer as normal, then select the desired content template from the VCT Content Templates menu.
VCT content templates typically replace the existing content in a VISION content object with that of the content template. Save any existing content to a temporary file before inserting a VCT content template. Optionally, the new content template can be inserted before the existing content, but note that highly complex page layouts can sometimes cause formatting issues when this option is used.
Different content templates can be offered for Programs versus Objectives. For example, two templates will typically be provided for scenario guides. The program template will contain information applicable to the entire scenario, while the objective template will contain the template for an individual event in the scenario.

The content layout templates and associated VCT menu(s) are specific to your VISION installation.
The names of the VCT's standard templates match the VOR's types of outcomes, but you can see how important it would be for custom templates to have matching names as well. Here are examples of which templates and outcomes work together:
