VISION provides a streamlined and simplified way to create courses directly from an Approved Exam built in VISION Developer. These exams may be delivered to learners without the need to manually create a Course and Training Unit in a Program Work Area in VISION Developer. The process of adding an Exam-Based Course also automates the creation of the VLS Course.
An instructional designer first builds an exam in VISION Developer. The exam may be created from any type of Test Unit. Once the exam has been reviewed and set to Approved status, the exam may be delivered to the Learning Station.
In the Learning Station, a user with Instructor or higher rights may then Add the Express Exam as a course. When the course is created in Learning Station, VISION will automatically create a Course within a special purpose Work Area within the Project to which the Exam belongs.
To add an exam-based course, log into VISION Learning Station as an Instructor or higher. In the Administration area, click on Courses in the top menu. Then click the +Add Express Exam button and select the following options:
Select the Organization for which the exam will apply. The listed Organization list will be restricted to the Organizations to which the user is assigned. Administrator users will have access to all Organizations and may select "Non-Organization Specific" as an option.
Specifies the Job Position, if selected, to which the Exam will be assigned as a new Course. The Job Position must be mapped to the Project, though it need not be mapped to any specific Work Areas in the Project. This setting defaults to "Non-Job Specific", making the Express Exam available to all users in the Organization.
The available Projects are dependent on the combination of the selected Organization, the selected Job Position, and the user's Developer permissions. The Projects listed will be linked to the Organization, mapped to the Job Position, and the user will have Read-Write permissions to the Project in Developer.
Approved, Static Exam-based profiles will be available for profile selection.
Select the Instructor for the Course Event. Instructor availability will be determined by the Organization, or if the Course is "Non-Organization Specific", all instructors in the system will be available for selection.
Exams which are neither archived, disqualified, nor security protected by exam ownership & password will be displayed. Non-approved exams will be displayed, but they will be non-selectable until they have been Approved.
Once all the required selections have been made, click the Create Course button to proceed. If the course is Organization or Job specific, VISION will prompt the user to automatically enroll a relevant population of users into the new course event, which is created in the following steps.
VISION will automatically create the Course and Training Unit (Cognitive Exam Only type) within a dedicated Program Work Area within the related Project in VISION Developer.
Note The Training Unit will have a single exam associated with it and will have no sequenced learning objectives. As a consequence, these lessons will not be reported in a Task to Training Matrix.
VISION will additionally create the VLS Course to deliver the Express Exam. The Course will have, by default, certain settings made and will be automatically Approved.
The user will be routed to the Course Event Properties page, with the Approved setting set to "No". The Course Event will adopt the Instructor setting, but all other settings for the Event should be made as you would for a standard Course Event.
Express Exam Training Units are created in a special Work Area in the Exam's Project titled "Online Static Exams". The Work Areas consists of organizers, representing the Organizations defined in the Learning Station, as well as organizers for Organization Hierarchy objects and Job Positions. When an Express Exam is created for a Job Position, a Course organizer, representing the exam is created under the Job Position node.
The Course contains a single Training Unit of the type "Cognitive Exam Only", bearing title of the Exam. The Training Unit will have a single exam associated with it, which means that anyone who fails the exam will be unable to retake it, as static exams may only be taken once by any given learner.
If additional exams are needed, Approved Exams can be added to the Training Unit without the need to revise the Training Unit's status.
