VISION User Guide

Security Roles

Security roles are assigned to users in their User Properties, on the Administration menu.

Learner: This security role is for students who will be assigned to qualification cards, courses events, exams, and DIF surveys. A learner will only be able to access those things to which they have been assigned. Learners may enroll themselves in course events that permit it, or request enrollment in courses listed under Public Courses.

Instructor: This role is for someone who will  manage the course events to which they are assigned as instructors. They are able to enroll and un-enroll learners into their events, manage their exam and score data, view records and reports on data limited to their events, as well as everything within the "Learner" role.

Site Administrator: The site administrator will have complete access to his or her own organization(s), but not other reports or courses that belong to other organizations; as well as everything within the "Learner" and "Instructor" roles.

Administrator: This role has complete access to every feature in VISION Learning Station and can view and interact with all of the data in the system.

Note that Instructors, Site Administrators and Administrators must also have VISION Developer credentials to interact with data from the VISION Developer module (such as creating courses and exams). See Reconcile VLS & VDM User Accounts for more information.

Supervisor Roles

In addition to VISION Learning Station's security roles you can also assign users to a supervisory position over other uses. Supervisors can be included in some aspects of training and qualification without needing to be a learner's instructor or evaluator.

There are two places where supervisors can be assigned, through the Organization or through the User's Properties.

Organization Supervisors

In the Organization Hierarchy, you can designate a level of the hierarchy (a Node) as a "Supervisor" role. Anyone assigned to this hierarchy node will be a supervisor for the nodes assigned beneath it. Users in this job position will be able to view qualification and training status reports for the users assigned to any subordinate job positions. See Develop and Organization Hierarchy for more information.

User Properties Supervisors

You can assign a supervisor to a user on their (the user's) properties. You can only assign a supervisor to a user after their user record has been created. To do so, edit their user record and click the Modify button next to "Supervisor".
