VISION User Guide

Below is a list of all menu options under the Tools menu. The Tools menu option will only appear in the menu when you are working in a document.

TipTip: To get help on any of these commands from VISION, click the Help button Icon-Whats-This and select any command from the menu.

Track Changes

Enable Tracking: The document remembers any insertions, deletions, and other changes that occur while this menu item is checked.

oThe Show Changes menu item shows those changes, while the Accept and Reject menu items untrack or undo them.

Show Changes: This indicates, by means of red text and strikethrough font, the unaccepted changes, insertions, and deletions that have been made to this document during the periods in which tracking has been enabled. Uncheck this menu item to hide the changes and view the document normally.

Find Next Change: Move the cursor forward to the next change.

Find Previous Change: Move the cursor backward to the previous change.

Accept Change: Accept the tracked change located at the cursor position.  Once a change is accepted, it is no longer tracked or marked by Show Changes.

Accept All Changes: Accept ALL tracked changes. Once a change is accepted, it is no longer tracked or marked by Show Changes.

Reject Change: Cancel the tracked change located at the cursor position, reverting to the pre-change state.

Reject All Changes: Cancel ALL tracked changes, reverting to the pre-change state.

oNote: Enable Tracking must be turned off before a change can be rejected. That's why this menu item is disabled while tracking is on.

Search

Search: (F5) Searches for a string of characters in your current document. The Editor will search for the first instance of a given character string. To find other instances of the same character string, select the Search Forward (Ctrl+F) or Search Backward (Ctrl+Shift+F) commands.

Search Forward: (Ctrl+F) Searches forward (down) in your document for the next occurrence of the character string using the Search command. If you did not use the Search command first, this function will call the Search command instead of the Search Forward command.

Search Backward: (Ctrl+Shift+F) Searches backward (up) in your document for the next occurrence of the character string used in the previous search command. If you did not use the Search command first, this function will call the Search command instead of the Search Backward command.

Replace: (F6) Searches for and replaces a character string with another character string.

Jump: (F10) Jumps to any line number in the document.

Movement

Beginning of Line: (Home) Move your cursor to the beginning of the line that it is currently on.

End of Line: (End) Move your cursor to the end of the line that it is currently on.

Beginning of Document: (Ctrl+Home) Move your cursor to the beginning of the first line of the first page of the document that is currently open.

End of Document: (Ctrl+End) Move your cursor to the end of the last line of the last page of the document that is currently open.

Next Word: (Ctrl+Right) Moves your cursor to the beginning of the next word in the document.

Previous Word: (Ctrl+Left) Moves your cursor to the beginning of the previous word in the document.

Other Commands

Spelling: (F7) Spell checks the entire document or selected text. If a word is not found in the dictionary, you will be prompted to change it, ignore it or add it to the User Dictionary.

Protection Lock: Set the protection lock for a block of text. The Protection Lock must be turned off to protect or unprotect a block of text. To protect or unprotect a block of text, select Font Arrow Protect from the Main Menu.

Hierarchy Commands

Note: If the text in the document is colored blue, the text came from the database and is interactive with the document. Use this command to view or edit the text in the workscreen from where it originated. If the text is colored black, this feature is not active.

Go to Database: (Double-click Left Mouse Button) Opens the database record pertaining to the text on which your cursor is placed. This allows you to make any corrections or enhancements permanently in the database without having to close your document.

Go to Hierarchy: Opens the Hierarchy Window pertaining to the text on which your cursor is placed. This allows you to add or delete hierarchy items without having to close your document.

Go to Cross Reference Item: Opens the cross reference item pertaining to the text on which your cursor is placed. This allows you to display or edit the cross reference item itself permanently in the database without having to close your document.

Update Database: This command opens the Update Database panel, which allows you to transfer the edited contents of a document back into the database fields from which they came. In this way, via a single document, you can conveniently edit many fields of the database without having to visit each field one by one through the normal interface. The Update Database tool is best used only on VISION-generated documents that have been deliberately designed to work with it.

oFor more info, click the Help button on the Update Database panel itself.
