VISION User Guide

VISION is comprised of several modules that work together to form the VISION System. The VISION Developer module and VISION's web modules are explained here. Take a look at how the programs interact internally and with each other.

VISION Developer Module

The VISION Developer module is used by course designers to conduct instructional activities based on a logical, systematic instructional design methodology. As you can see on the diagram, activities include the conduct of job/task analysis, creation of qualifications, establishment of learning objectives, related test questions, content, and sequencing of objectives into a program of lessons. The result is a data "foundation" upon which lesson materials will be built.

Qualifications, lesson content, and questions are added to the Developer module and are stored in the VISION database. Because objectives, tasks, questions, lessons/programs, etc., are linked in the data foundation, they can easily be found, modified, shared, and re-used for the life of the training system.

VISION's Web Modules

The Action Tracking module is used by both administrators and learners to report issues with the content in the VISION System, such as an incorrect exam question or missing information within a lesson. Administrators can use it to distribute these problems to the appropriate designers, who can then fix them in the database.

The Certification module is used to add credits of various types to different courses available through the VISION Learning Station. These credits can be tracked and counted to fulfill preset coursework requirements.

The DIF Survey module can be used to distribute DIF surveys to subject matter experts, tabulate responses, and update a task's DIF values in the VISION Developer module.

The VISION Learning Station module deploys content stored in the VISION database online. The VLS can produce web-based training materials and exams on demand, directly from the database, and learners can use it to view course materials and complete exams. Results, such as course completions and exam scores, are recorded in the system for use by course administrators. Administrators use the VISION Learning Station module to set up course maps, assign courses to individuals, view progress, and generate statistical reports.

For those who use an external LMS, VISION Connect delivers the courses and exams created in VISION to the external LMS. It can connect your LMS to the VISION developer module to present the content, questions, and exams stored in the VISION database to learners through your LMS. It can also send training completion information to your LMS.

The Qualification module works within the VISION Learning Station to present qualifications to learners and to route those qualifications to trainers and administrators.

The VISION System

Most of the information presented in VISION's web modules is stored in the VISION Developer module. In the diagram above, the modules and features of VISION's web modules are color-coded to match the work areas of the VISION Developer module that they draw from. As you can see, the Survey and Qualification modules use information from the Analysis work area of the Developer module. The VISION Learning Station and an external LMS both use courses and exams generated from the Objective and Program work areas, as does the Certification module. The Action Tracking module can report issues from any part of the Developer module, so it shares the same color. All of VISION's web modules are not only dependent on the VISION Developer module, but also on the Administration module, which forms the platform on which the web modules operate. If you use all of VISION's web modules, or just one of them, you will also use the Administration module.
