As we all know, "training" provides the information, practice and experience that trainees need in order to perform their job. "Performance based training" is a type of training that focuses instruction precisely on a documented set of job performance outcomes and standards.
To create a truly performance based training program, you must first define the performance outcomes and standards. These become the performance "targets," or goals of the program. Then, use a systematic instructional design process to develop training and performance support materials. This approach ensures that the program will enable trainees to consistently hit the performance targets with measurable results.
Performance based training then, actually refers to two things: a particular type of training program, and a particular type of training design process.
